Fried food is the best. That's not an opinion; that's a fact, Jack. And while fried standards like wings, French fries, and onion rings are all stellar, there's no way you should stop there.
I believe that nearly anything and everything should be fried—even the healthy stuff. Seriously, the possibilities for great fried food are endless, so think outside the fryolator and deep-fry these five foods that you might not have thought of before. You won't be sorry.
1. Bacon
What is the best food? Bacon. What is the best way to cook? Deep-frying. So put two and two together, carry the one, divide by something and... deep-fried bacon.
There's no easier food to fry: no prep, no cutting, no breading. Simply drop your bacon in a fryer at 350°F and cook until it's crispy, about one minute for thin bacon and 90 seconds for thicker bacon. Quick, easy, and deliciously decadent!
The flavor of deep-fried bacon is much richer than pan-fried bacon because the fat doesn't have time to render, so you get all the fatty goodness.

2. Ice Cream
Wait, what? Fried ice cream? Yes! And it's divine. Start by making some balls of ice cream with a scooper or a spoon, and place them on a baking sheet. Then put the entire sheet of ice cream balls in the freezer so that your spherical sweets can be as frozen as possible.

When the ice cream balls are fully frozen, dunk them in an egg wash (just some beaten eggs), then coat them in crushed Corn Flakes. Dunk them again in the egg wash, and once more in the Corn Flakes, then fry for about 10 seconds (don't walk away!) at 375°F until they are golden.
At this point, the outside will be crunchy but the inside will still be mostly frozen. Let them cool a bit so that you don't burn your mouth on the crust, then enjoy the delightful contrast of the crispy fried exterior to the creamy, sweet interior of these amazing ice cream balls.

3. Grilled Cheese
Grilled cheese is simple but perfect. If it's possible to improve on perfection, though, deep-frying grilled cheese might just be the way to go.
Make your favorite grilled cheese sandwich, keeping in mind that you don't want to make the bread too toasty since it will be getting a second cooking shortly. Since there's no such thing as "too melty" cheese, that's not a concern.
Dunk your grilled cheese in an egg wash (make sure it's cooled off or you will cook the egg), then coat it in bread crumbs. Fry it at 375°F until it is perfectly crisp. Immediately blot it with paper towels so that the bread doesn't absorb too much oil.

4. Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dog
A bacon-wrapped hot dog may seem like the ultimate indulgence, but you can take it to the next level by deep-frying this over-the-top treat. It's as simple as it sounds... and it sounds delicious.
Wrap a hot dog in bacon and secure the ribbon of porky goodness with a toothpick. Drop your bacon dog in a fryer at 350°F and cook about 3 to 5 minutes; you want the bacon crispy, but not crumble-apart crispy. Then place on a bun, add your desired condiments, and devour. Repeat as needed.

5. Avocado
I know, I know: you think avocados are fresh and bright and shouldn't be weighed down with deep-frying. Well, you're wrong! Deep-fried avocados are amazing, and a must-try on any burger. Trust me—I'm a deep-frying guru at this point.
All you have to do is cut an avocado into thick slices and dunk them in an egg wash. Then, coat them in a seasoned flour (I like to season the flour with garlic powder and cumin), and fry them at 375°F until they're crispy, usually about 2 to 3 minutes.
These taste great on a burger or a BLT or just dipped in salsa.
If you're just deep-frying chicken, potatoes, or onions, you're missing out. Give one of these freakishly delicious deep-fried delicacies a try, or try your hand at deep-frying something new. If your experiment's a success, let us know in the comments.
